What is Reiki ?
Reiki is a Japanese word means Universal Life-force Energy. REI means universal, present everywhere, KI is the life force - the energy that gives life to all living things and which can be used for the purpose of healing.
When the life force is low or a person is stressed, there is a greater susceptibility to illness. When the life force is high a person is more highly resistant to illness.
A REIKI practitioner channels the energy via the upper energy centres, through the hands to the recipient, thus increasing the bodys natural ability to heal itself. Most serious illness finds it's origin in the deep unconscious part of a person's being. The Reiki healing energy is supremely intelligent and goes to exactly where it is needed. The practitioner is simply an open channel through whom the energy flows.
People find that after a series of Reiki treatments they are able to take greater responsibility for their lives and make the necessary changes in attitude and lifestyle which will bring a happier and healthier life.
Another marvellous thing about the Reiki approach to healing is that self-healing is strongly emphasized. After receiving the first degree initiation people are encouraged to link in to the energy for self-healing on a daily basis. This is probably unique to the Reiki system of healing
THE HISTORY
REIKI is an ancient form of healing believed to have spread through Tibet, China and India a few thousand years ago. It was rediscovered about one hundred and twenty years ago by Dr. Mikao Usui, who discovered ancient manuscript texts, which contained the healing symbols, in a Tibetan Monastery. Dr. Usui had spent many years on a quest for the secret of the ancient healing knowledge.
He knew that he had the symbols but not yet the power of healing. He went to a mountain top in Japan and underwent a 21 day period of purification, fasting and meditation at the end of which he received enlightenment and the power of healing. He came down from the mountain and spent the rest of his life practicing and teaching what we now know as REIKI.
REIKI is not involved with religion or dogma although it draws upon both Christianity and Buddhism for some of its teachings and it's ethical base. People of all walks of life and spiritual backgrounds appreciate it's loving simplicity and benefit from it's healing power
REIKI TREATMENT
Receiving Reiki treatment is a very simple, non-intrusive and extremely powerful process. A treatment lasts approximately one hour. It is usually done with the recipient lying down, fully clothed and sometimes covered with a blanket, on a treatment couch. The practitioner channels the Reiki energy through the hands to the recipients head, front of the body, back, knees and feet. The energy flows to the source of the problem and being supremely intelligent knows exactly what the recipient needs. Reiki often relieves pain and acute symptoms rapidly while chronic problems usually require treatment over a longer period.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE
You will generally feel a pleasant sensation of warmth or gentle tingling in the area being treated. As the energy comes into balance, stress and tension is released and there is a deep sense of relaxation and a feeling of well-being.
REIKI works well alongside all other forms of treatment and is truly complementary to both modern western medicine and the various systems of treatment called Alternative Medicine.
REIKI HEALING TRAINING
There are many methods of developing the capacity to channel healing energy. Some people are born with the capacity, some develop it through sitting in development groups, and others find the method of attunement used in Reiki very helpful. Reiki Masters have learned methods of attunement similar to those used in Tibetan and other ancient cultures, which enable the recipient to become a channel of healing energy in a short space of time.
FIRST DEGREE REIKI
In the training for the First Degree of Reiki, four attunements are given which progressively open the higher chakras or energy centres of the body starting at the heart, moving through the throat centre and the third eye to the crown centre. Once initiated, the Reiki healer has the capacity to channel the energy for life. The energy is useful for many things other than healing the body, mind and spirit of human beings. Animals respond well to the Reiki Energy. Living space and food can be cleared and cleansed of negative vibrations. Self- healing is an important part of the use of Reiki Energy. Daily self-treatment, not only helps in the clearing of conditions of ill-health but also clarifies and deepens a person's understanding of his/her pathway in life.
SECOND DEGREE REIKI
Is for those who have completed First Degree Reiki, and are ready to go further. It is an opportunity to renew and deepen your commitment to REIKI. You will learn to work with some of the secret symbols revealed to Dr. Usui, and will receive an attunement which increase the power of your treatments. Most people can send healing to other people through the link of loving thought and prayer. In Reiki Second Degree symbols are taught which enable a much stronger and more direct healing link to be made across space and time.
THIRD DEGREE REIKI
The Master level is for those who wish to increase the power of their healing and to take responsibility for the training of others. This is available by personal request, usually after working with Second Degree Reiki for at least one year.
The training may be given in two stages: The first gives the Master attunement and symbol for use in healing. The second stage gives further attunement and instruction in the teaching and attunement processes.
See Reiki Training for details of location and costs of training.
